May is typically our wettest month in Central Texas and this year we received little to no rain. The LCRA reports current inflows to the Highland Lakes similar to the worst drought of record and we’re headed for one to make the record books unless a tropical system comes ashore this summer. It can happen. The Pedernales at Johnson City had its top 5 historical crests during hurricane season in 9/1952, 7/1869, 10/1959, 8/1944 & 7/2002 respectively. In September of 1952, the river’s highest peak was 42.6 ft which took out the bridge on Hwy 281 north of town.
